A New Age Dawns In The North Pacific

by James2spooky and Democratic Donkeys

After living under the dark cloud of despotism for six months The North Pacific finally sees the light! But will the sun shine through or will it be rough seas ahead? In fact, TNP has been experienced this over and over. One thing many of us can be sure of is that The North Pacific has weathered every storm thrown her way. Due to the courage and strong will of the natives who refuse to be ruled by dictators. Who will fight till the bitter end to see democracy restored. It is time to recognize one of the key players whose dedication helped us survive this time. Our very own new delegate Stars of Sky.

On 27th of May 2005, the Stars of Sky became the UN delegate of The North Pacific. The crowd was so happy that Pixiedance was finally no longer in control of their freedom. Nations region wide celebrated this important achievemnt by Stars of Sky and Lungwallabad. There are critics out there, but they need to realize that we need to support our new delegate. She holds the keys to democracy and we need to work together as a region to rebuild what we once had. It has been a day now since Stars became delegate of the north pacific. Nations of the region are excited at the prospect of democracy being restored. Some may have their doubts but the prevailing attitude is to buckle down and get started on a new North Pacific government. Some do not trust her but have little choice but to have faith that what she fought so hard for is what she wants the NP to have. So we soldier on, always towards our goal of a peaceful TNP. We may be waylayed along the road but we will continue to endure.

Below is a small gift from James2spooky and Democratic Donkeys to the Stars of Sky:

Interview with the Minister, of Arts and Entertainment!

As I was probing the depths of MSN messenger tonight I spotted a rare Ministerial specimen. A "spooky james", which may be too spooky for the faint of heart. Some might call it "James2spooky!" but those people need a grammar lesson. Regardless, I found him to be less than spooky. Instead what I found was a citizen who has a deep love for The North Pacific...

It's about time. You don't keep a reporter waiting!
Oh, I was stuck in the traffic jam in TNP forum, lol

Now I have to tell you...I don't do normal interviews
Special interviewer for special guy like me, haha

Yes, exactly...Ok, so I suppose we'll start with you...Who are you outside of NS and what is your favorite thing to do?
My name is Lok, James Lok. On my free time, I usually play chess and tennis, online chatting, online gaming, collecting stamps and girl's pictures. Other than those, I also like to listen to the muzic, watch movies, etc...
I'm like any other teenager out there. My school result, is not bad. In fact, I failed only a couple of times and I hope it will stay as few as possible!

Now when you say girls pictures....?
Girl's pictures...for example, japanese, korean, dutch, russian, american, australian, etc. Some of them are collected over the Internet, while some of them were asked from my MSN contacts ^_^

The various faces of the world eh? Any one that you truly treasure?
See that in my picture? That's my dream girl...however, she is a Hong Kong movie star, so I don't think I have a chance anyway. I have another girl who I fall in love with now. Her name is Felicia Choong. I don't know whether she likes me or not cause I don't have the couragement to ask her to be my girlfriend, yet

Ah, a situation many of us have faced. So you're in school. What year are you in right now?
Well, how do I put this. In Malaysia education system, we have primary school, secondary school (high school), college and university...I'm in the 5th year of the secondary school...that means 6 years + 5 years... 11th grade?

Sounds good, so for all us americans you are a junior. Which is coincidental, it is the year in school where I discovered NationStates. Ok, so, you're the Minister of Arts and Entertainment. Do you enjoy the job? Did you find it daunting to take on a role previously occupied by Spam Monarchs such as Poe and myself?
Well, I definitely enjoy the job. I don't know how long will I keep that job since TNP is changing now...Why I like my job as the Minister of Arts and Entertainment? It is because I like the forum category so much that I would like to have control over it. HAHA, that's true. I don't mind who is the previous ministers of Arts and Entertainment. As long as I am the one, I will serve it no matter how hard, I just have to try!

You certainly exceed in my opinion! I'm sorry, succeed. Will you be running again if there are elections again?
I will definitely, but this time, the competition will be higher. Since many members of TNP had come back to the S2 (the current government forum), I must say my chance of becoming one is 1/100 which is 1%.

I rate your chances much higher than that!
Thank you...but even if the percentage is 0.000000000000000...1, I will still compete for that position

Tenacity is something you have in spades! Whether it's running the Min of A&E or running for delegate, you stick it through! While we're on the subject how did you feel about getting ejected?
Being ejected? well, my experience is definitely differs from the others. The first time I was ejected was when I "invaded" the TNP, PRP...oh, that was the most stupid thing I have done in NationStates. My feeling was definitely guilty afterall...and I left the NationStates for a couple of months. I was back to nationStates 3 months ago and found out Pixiedance is taking control, well it was always, just that the owner of the nation is another person. That's the time where my nation got rejected. I was uneasy on that.

Any plans for TNP delegate in the future? You have my endo.
Sure, I want to become TNP delegate, serving TNP as its delegate just for one day is enough for me! However, I'm not going to compete for that position this time around, as I know I lack the skill to stabilize TNP after all the mess created by Insane Legends(Insan Power) and Pixiedance, Moldavi, etc...

Your history has been quite amazing. At first you were viewed as an annoyance (by me even) then you were ejected, and now you're a beloved native. Any thoughts on that?
Beloved? I don't know...nobody tells me that! Oh, if I am, then I am glad they do love me. The reason I play NationStates since my day one, is to have fun and learn more about politic issues. I didn't ever think of joining the forum but now I am in the forum...yea, at the beginnings I was being quite annoying to everyone, cause I spam, and my english is not that good. However, I made some friends during this process and I love being one of TNP natives.

So do you think The North Pacific will survive?

Definitely, with the cooperation and strong will + relationship between TNP natives, I'm sure TNP will survive for the next hundred years (oh, Moldavi, your five years plan don't workout so well...but this hundred years will) unless NationStates is gone. I know I am not the only one who love TNP, many of the TNP members want it to be the greatest region in NationStates, that's for sure!

We are the greatest region! So now that the serious stuff is done how about some silly questions? If you could be any animal what would it be?
Pig! funny, isn't it? I hope I am as dumb as a pig, cause they look cute and they don't need to worry anything since they are not able to think too much, haha. My 2nd selection is to be a Dragon, a legendary animal. Why? Not only because my zodiac is Dragon, but also because Dragon is a witty and powerful animal.

A pig? You do know that they become sausage and bacon? I could think of better ways for you to serve people than you with 2 eggs and a hashbrown.
Oh, I may sacrifice myself, even my life to make a few people survive in hunger...

Very noble of you! So yeah, continue doing what you do! You're a great contributor to The North Pacific (especially in regards to posts)! As a final thing, would you like to help me draw a picture to share with everyone?
Sure, why not?

Picture can be found here.

So there you have it folks! Quite a dedicated TNPer! I hope this article was informative and helped you better understand the driving force behind the Arts and Entertainment section. Without him what would we do, debate?

DD Signing off.

Interview with Eli of The Meritocracy

1. So what lead to the refounding of the Meritocracy?

Our members had got to the point that the mechanisms in place for resolving disputes and working through the various political issues were no longer sufficient for the task. The quality and tenor of our debate had become personal, vindictive, and vituperative even. Winnipeg, our founder and benefactor in this fine site, and I thought that a reset with the opportunity to re-establish our community with the ideals of old being our goal.

2. What is the difference between the old and the new Meritocracy?

We are radically exploring the new opportunities for RP and game play that this change has presented us. We have members that are going their own way in forming rival governmental groups within our own region and we are going to structure our forum to allow for that. (I of course in my pompous windbag way will advocate that everyone joining ratify the Meritocratic Accords as the only true representation of the Meritocratic Ideal.) The other organizations within that has support is the Meritocratic League. That organization will have the opportunity to compete for members within the region.

Sound confusing, well I guess it probably is. We are emerging from a chaotic reformation process and are doing our best to not limit the freedom or the RP/game play experience for any of our players.

3. Will you still be opposed to UN status in the region, and what is the reason for that?

We are talking about allowing UN membership. Our idea is UN membership with absolutely no power to the delegate, should one ever be selected. It has been so long since I've been in a UN based region that I've forgot those mechanics, but my recollection from my time as a delegate is that the founder can maintain all power for him or herself. I've personally not looked at a UN resolution in over a year.

4. How will the new government deal with the problems of Duality, in reference to members being active in the Meritocracy and in other regions?

We welcome nations from all regions to come visit us at The Meritocracy, http://merit.nosync.org, how is that for a shameless plug? Our only hope is not to become just another battleground for the invader/defender crew.

That said I do think our group has some common ideals:

1. We believe in Freedom. We believe that Freedom includes the right to participate in choosing the government of a nation's region. Often times to some, there are gray lines in NationStates in that regard. There are things like what is legal for game play that make Freedom irrelevant in some regions. I don't, and I believe the vast majority of our members don't approve of those type governments. After all we are allowing, permitting, encouraging, multiple organizations under our own roof to make sure that the freedom we espouse is provided for our own members.

2. As for Duality we do not allow others to define that concept for us. In my view we shall respect the right of players to have multiple nations within the game. We only ask that the player, if he or she wants their member nation here to be considered a separate entity from their non-New Meritocracy nation, that they play it that way. I have nations that I play completely separately from the New Meritocracy and whose identity is only known to me or a few others. I also have a nation within The West Pacific that I have revealed to be Eli's. That nation is Wickedly Evil People, I didn't want my good friends at TWP to think I was trying to pull a fast one on them or anything. (like anybody could!!)

You can find the Meritocracy forums here. The link is also included in the list of regional forums on the right side of this site.

Thanks to Tresville for helping with the questions!

Interview with The Giver of Cookies, Minineenee

Minineenee, the new Delegate of The West Pacific, was kind enough to answer a few questions for the Wire.

You can visit The West Pacific forums at http://forums.thewestpacific.com/index.php?

To what extent were you aware of what ZetaOne was planning prior to the ejections?
I was not aware of what Zeta was planning.

How involved were you in the attempt to gain the delegacy?
I was there, I didn't do much at all though in comparison to others.

Has this experience changed your view of TWP, the government, ZetaOne, or NS in general? If so, how?
This hasn't really changed my view of anything, beyond thinking that people can act and coordinate a lot quicker than I had thought.

What were your reasons for choosing Biyah as regent?
The Regent should be someone the Delegate trusts. I trust Biyah.

How well do you think TWP did in taking the delegacy from ZetaOne?
I think it was well done. Everyone involved in taking the delegacy did well.

What are your plans now that you are delegate?
Try to convince Dilber to institute a dress code for government officials: a pink top and black pants.
...nonono, i'm just kidding.
My plans are to just to my job as best I can, have fun while I do it, and hopefully help others have fun as well.

Ampher visits Kandarin

The Nation “The UNENDORSE PIXIEDANCE of Ampher” was booted from the region yesterday with no warning, presumably for having 101 endorsements, one more than the current endorsement cap of 100. Citizens of the region are alarmed and some have even gone as far as to comment on how this reminds them of the actions of Moldavi. Insane Power, as well as the rest of the government, has yet to release any statement, official or unofficial, on the ejection, much to the chagrin of many of the citizens of the region. In fact, it appears that the only time in the past three days Insane Power has logged on was to eject Ampher.

The nation, unknown to most, vaguely familiar to some, has a population (as of this article) of 3.181 billion. The nation is undoubtedly old, but no one knows exactly why (s)he decided to make a run for the delegacy at this particular time. We do know that the nation was going for the delegacy, because numerous people have come forward and admitted to receiving telegrams from Ampher saying just that.

A request for a proper trial has gone out, but the government has yet to address it, just like they have yet to address anything. Haor Chall, a Regional Assembly Senator, has requested that the Regional Assembly release a statement condemning the lack of any trial prior to Ampher being ejected.

We're back!

The NPWire is officially re-opening. More to come.
