Comrade Delegate bares it all!

Hello one and all! Today marks the first day of the grand re-opening of the North Pacific Wire. While we begin to dust off and replace our sorely antiquated equipment, allow us to divert your attention to an interview with Chodean Kal--TNP's newly re-elected Delegate that many of us know better as Dalimbar.

Chodean Kal (CK/Dali) has been a long-time player in NationStates and has contributed to The North Pacific for many years. Let's see him in an exclusive interview with correspondent Monte Ozarka...

Monte Ozarka: So, Dali, I already know all (*winkwink* ;)) about you, but our readers may not. So, just start off by telling us a little bit about your NationStates history.
Chodean Kal/Dalimbar: Well, I started NationStates on July 19th, 2004, which is the day after my RL birthday. I don't remember which Pacific I was created in, as I left to go to the Allied States of EuroIslanders pretty much when I got a telegram from them. From then till September of last year I was a member of the Red Liberty Alliance, with my most senior position being Deputy Director of Red Liberty Alliance Intelligence. While I was a member of the ASE and RLA, I started doing numerous diplomatic assignments, including some to many of the Pacifics and high-ranking regions, which allowed me to gain better knowledge of the game in comparison to what I was told from the RLA elite.

I've also been the founder of the Allied Union of Nations under the nation Tulavar and have been involved with The North Pacific since the Pixiedance Era--firstly as an outsider trying to rid the region of the tyrants and then later on as a citizen. As you know, in TNP I've been Minister of Defence, Minister of External Affairs, and now Delegate.

MO: Wow, what a hunk! So well-travelled and well-spoken, too... *swoon* Anyways. Now, Dali, as we all know, this is your second term. Do you have any new plans for this term?
CK/Dali: Well, I have my sights set at getting to 500 endorsements this term. I want to work with the Government on integrating more of our region into our society, as well as continuing to work with members to keep our region safe from malicious threats that do pop up upon occasion. As you know, there isn't much I *can* do as Delegate, but I want to work within those boundaries to make our region the best it can be. :)

MO: A notable difference between this term and the last is that your Vice Delegate has changed. How do you forsee working with Haor Chall to be any different than with Zemnaya Svoboda?
CK/Dali: Haha, I never have a completely ridgid plan. So no, the change in the #2 position doesn't really affect me too much. I'm hopeful that Zemnaya Svoboda will maintain the #3 position, who as you know has more influence than the current Vice Delegate Haor Chall, and thus, the region will be harder to take out in the very remote chance that I'm overtaken by someone.

MO: As we all know, the elections have just recently ended, and we have a bevy of new Cabinet members eager to get things done. Do you have any plans to work with any specific ministries during this term?
CK/Dali: I want to work with the Ministry of Immigration and Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Communications on providing a stronger link between the government and the region, by providing the nations of our region information and news, along with encouraging them to become more productive members of our region by joining our offsite forum. With security, the Ministry of Defence, the Security Council and I will I am sure be meeting with each other, making sure that we together can keep our region safe and cozy.

In terms of foreign relations, I have been approached many times by foreign regions who wish to get to know TNP better. I will want to work with the Ministry of External Affairs on combining our efforts on that front for efficiency. Finally, Culture and the Arts are important to me this term, as we need to really develop a culture for ourselves besides one of bureaucracy and paper pushing. I want to talk to the Ministers of Arts and Entertainment, and Culture and Education on what they think could help improve our culture, and work from there.

MO: Last term, we saw the introduction of the Regional Task Force, and many ideas were presented all around, although activity was a bit low. How do you forsee trying to bring about actual, physical change with the RTF?
CK/Dali: It's a work in progress. While we have indeed started off a bit slow, with me going to have much more time this term due to the summer coming up and all, I'm going to be requesting more meetings to hash out ideas, and working to impliment them. Also, for the record, I will be announcing some structural changes within the next few days. These changes I believe can improve activity and efficiency :)

MO: Alright, enough with the serious questions. Pfft. Who cares about them? :P It's now time for a short lightning round of silly and pointless questions! Let's begin.

  • Favorite color?
    Forest green
  • Middle name?
    No comment. :P
  • Partypooper. :P Hottest celebrity?
    Me
  • You're damn right you are! *sizzles* Annnnd...your favorite Minister? (Hint: There is a right answer. :D)
    You, of course. :)

MO: Yay! :D
CK/Dali: Do I get a martini now?
MO: Sorry, I ran out of gin. :(
CK/Dali: You...are not my favorite now.
MO: :(

MO: Now that you have broken my heart, are there any parting thoughts that you'd like to leave off with?
CK/Dali: Besides the usual Delegate worship, I think all of us should sometimes relax and play the game as it should be played, instead of having a stick up some area I won't mention.

Well, there you go. Delegate Dalimbar spills it all (except for his middle name) and shows that he can be easily bribed with promises of martinis.

Thank you, Dalimbar, for your time. Thank you to our readers for reading. I hope you have appreciated this bit of insight into our awesome region's delegate. Good luck in your term, Dalimbar!

Good night!

Moving to a New Neighborhood

Well, it finally happened. The twoslit experiment finally did something to seriously piss off the s2 community but in all the confusion nobody knows what exactly it was! There are so many accusations floating around that deciding what to criticise him for is not at all unlike a buffet. I must of grabbed 4 or five plates before leaving! It has come down to us finally realising that we are to blame. That's right! It is your fault that someone 'illegally' reduced your warn level! It is your fault that another government official criticised twoslit and, above all else, it is your fault that you are banned! That being said, everyone should admit that they were wrong and come back to s2.

However, if you wish to come to the new amazing, exciting, sexy and fun TNP forum (which I strongly discourage) then you can click here: http://s13.invisionfree.com/TNP/index.php?

If, in the process of reading this article, you have forgotten or misplaced the s2 forum address, you're welcome.

Statement to the People: FromTresville

To the members of The North Pacific:

In my tenure in this region, we have gone through good times and bad. We have triumphed over oppressors and the many obstacles that we have faced in our strive to be a viable community. We have reached a point in the regions time line, where we can no longer be thought of as a region that is controlled or influenced by a select few or an outside group. In order for this to continue, I believe that I should cut off all political ties to the region and let the active members, currently in the community, continue to lead it forward. I believe that the members of the region possess all the means by which to secure the region, protect its citizens and the chosen government…those means being the constitution.

For this reason I will be slowly removing myself from all public service offices, including the NPA, NPIA and as Global Mod for the S2 forum. I wish to retain my status as a registered voter and as a member of the region, but will not remain as a member of the Regional Assembly.

I believe that my presence will have a negative effect, as I am seen as a remnant of the “Old Guard” and will only cause members to argue over my past actions, ideals and any opinions that I may post.

This is not a …”I hate how things are going,” “screw you guys, I’m leaving,” or a “Stop picking on me” speech. I truly believe that my absence will help. This will always be my home in NationStates and am proud that my roots are in The North Pacific.

I hope I will be remembered as a leader that helped to rebuild the foundations of this great region…not one who helped lead it to destructive endeavors. By doing this I hope to not only help the region but prove my enemies and critics wrong...I have no desire to control the government of the region or oppress anyone…my intentions have and will continue to be true.

I will continue to interact in the community via the entertainment forum, Regional headquarters and IRC rooms. I am not abandoning anyone and will always be available should anyone need my UN, advice, wisdom, experience, etc, etc. I am simply returning to my roots…becoming a humble member of the region.

Should you need me…I will be here…should the region fall again…I will fight along with you!! Long Live the Greatest Region in all of NationStates and its community!!

Sincerely Your Humble Servant,
Tresville

Interview with Deikura:Candidate for Minister of Internal Affairs

I received a package in the mail the other day in regards to my request for an interview with Deikura, leadre of the Nation of Deikura. In the package I received travel instructions, a Press Pass and a note from Deikura, leader of the Nation of Deikura.

The note was blunt and to the point, as can be expected from Deikura. In it she gave a time for the interview and even added that she was, “Looking forward to the Opportunity to be able to address the public of The North Pacific.”

I arrived an hour early to the interview as was instructed in the note (I had to go through a few security checks). The Interview time was at 10pm at night...which I found strange but was not a bother since this is the time I do most of my work anyway.

I was driven by a Security guard to the Praetoral Embassy offices. I was glad the interview was to take place here and not somewhere else in the country, since only some parts of the nation have a power grid. The front lawn was beautiful and the grounds to the building were well kept. Their were fountains and sculptures decorating the various grassy areas and the building façade had a mixture of Roman and Gothic influence. Six 15 foot columns, with statues of deceased patrons of the country on top of them, rose upward on opposite sides of the steps leading to the building entrance. I slowly made my way to the large doors, where a guard was already waiting to lead me. I reached the office moments later and was greeted warmly by Deikura. We began the interview immediately after she answered a few questions about the various historical artifacts in her office.

__________________________________________________

Tresville:Hello Deikura...how are you this night?
Deikura:I'm doing quite well., Tresville.
Tresville:Thanks for granting me this interview...I’m sure you have a busy schedule, I appreciate it.
Deikura:Not a problem. The advantage to a pre-modern nation is that very few people are up at night, so I have plenty of time for appointments.

Tresville:So your leaving Democratic Donkeys shadow in the Ministry of Arts and Entertainment...why the sudden interest in a political bonfire that the Ministry Of Internal Affairs is?
Deikura:In all honesty, I wanted to get straight into the line of fire. Not to say that spamming over in OOC is boring me now, but you said yourself I wasn't involved enough. I think I decided to dive on in, finally.
Tresville:Well, you dove into the second toughest job in the Government...seems like you like a challenge.
Deikura:that’s an understatement. I love challenges. As to whether or not I will do a good job, only time will tell, but I suppose I can do no worse. Nothing against Baribeau, but the MIIA is not an office that can afford to be idle a day much less longer.

Tresville:Let me get some Rumors cleared up...I know you did this already in your post a few hours ago...do you mind if I ask you directly?
Deikura:Sure, go ahead.
Tresville:Ok...are you a man?
Tresville:Of course not. Though I doubt anything other me going to Southampton and exposing myself will clear it up for good.
Tresville:well if you do let me know..I'll bring my camera!! (Laughs)
Deikura:I'm sure there are many that would agree with you. I'd probably draw a huge crowd.

Tresville:this rumor is actually old...are you aware of where it began?
Deikura:Yes, actually. I looked back into my logs and found an instance where Silver Diamonds sent me a query. I'd already gone to bed but I'd left my client open. My ex-roomie, in her infinite stupidity, perpetuated a very old joke and gave whoever was on the other end (be it Cathyy or IP) the idea that I was not a man.
Tresville:Yes, that’s what my sources told me as well...supposedly its that and a lil more...something about a screen shot you sent with your Favorites folder being named after "Daniel's Start Page" or something like that.
Deikura:Yeah. My brother had this idea to make a start page that you have locally so you aren't using bandwidth just to open the browser. I based mine off his, and simply forgot to change the title, since it wasn't done.

I grew up quite masculine. Three brothers and one sister, me the oldest. I also tend toward liking weapons, melee and firearms alike. I like wrestling, and I tend to relate with guys a lot better.
Tresville:That’s what I figured, just thought you were a tough girl...especially since you tend to throw...em...Kunai's at me. (Laughs)
Deikura:Well, I know I tend toward the masculine, but it's no reason to make fun of me. Some have chosen to do so and if they want to make an enemy of me, that's their business. At least you're polite about it.

Tresville:Thanks..next rumor...are you an ADN spy?
Deikura:(laughs heartily) That one was so absurd I didn't know what to make of it. The simple answer is also no. I have a puppet in Nasi, but I'm not in Nasi-corps or the ADN. I choose regions because of their communities. Not their politics.
Tresville:I take it you don't know where this rumor originated?
Deikura:Not a clue there actually. Possibly my moving Kowaibikuta from the Pacific to Nasicournia. It wouldn't surprise me if this one originated with Ivan, but that's pure speculation.
Tresville:Actually I believe its because of your involvement with Stars and the Constitutional Referendum Forum that we had the convention in.
Deikura:Indeed, I once had that very same puppet in Stars.
Tresville:since you became known (in TNP) because of them..and Stars of Sky is generally viewed as a Hard Core ADNer (another rumor)...I believe that’s where the connection was made.
Deikura:I left after SoS and I had our little private falling out.
Tresville:I for one don't believe your AND. If you are your not a very good ADNer....lol
Deikura:I don't eat enough tacos for one. :P I do have relationships with ADN members, and acquaintance with PH, but no official relationship with the ADN itself, that one was an odd one.
Tresville:As do I...people just tend to classify you as ADN if you stand near a true ADN member...don't take offense..it will happen again I am sure!!

Tresville:lol...next Rumor..a more recent one...are you Romanoffias spy?
Deikura:Now I will admit, I've talked with Roman a bit and it's mostly been about keeping himself in check. I feel either he or Polts would make a passable at least PM, but Roman tends to overreact a bit.
Tresville:ok...I was unaware that you spoke to Roman often...and his overreacting is what makes him...Roman.
Deikura:Simply put, I don't spy for anyone but myself. I prefer to know what trash people are talking about me from behind my back.
Tresville:lol..well..Thats all the rumors I have heard...good to clear the air a bit..lets move on...

Deikura:Agreed, no need to dwell long on things just to discredit me.
Tresville:There are many issues you will have to face as Minister of Internal Affairs....I will touch on a few key ones...
Deikura:
Deikura:Feel free. I enjoy a good grilling.
Tresville:Raider RV's ..specifically raiders who battle the NPA often...with the prior rejections of Fedele and Blue Wolf II....would you uphold these rejections if they applied during your term?
Deikura:that’s something I've thought about quite a bit.
Tresville:ditto
Deikura:Mostly because it's going to be on my plate the moment I'm elected. I think I'd probably take a seat with the new PM and discuss it with him, then talk to BW and Fedele myself. Mostly, I feel as though the raider issue has been blown far out of proportion. As long as they aren't savvy to NPA movements, and their nation in the region is neither their main, nor the ones raiding, I don't see how such prohibition is enforceable. If they were here to disrupt the NPA for whatever reason, I doubt they'd be so open about their status.
Tresville:what about the reasoning...constitution wise...I mean it says right there that you can't take sides with any group which the NP is taking defensive or offensive action against...I'm not sure your new PM will be able to help you with that part. Those (Fedele and Bleu Wolf) two are openly saying they invade with Lone Wolves United...a group the NPA has battled.
Deikura:That, I think is a blurring of the lines between player and nation. IC and OOC. I admit the line is fine, but it must be drawn somewhere.
Tresville:I believe their 1 and 2 in the chain of command at that.
Deikura:they are.
Tresville:as a gov official...you have to be aware of the consequences of allowing Invaders into a government....openly mind you. These are groups whose sole purpose is to disrupt regional communities (game wise). That in itself is a constitutional violation.
Deikura:Someone you know to watch is far better than not watching someone you should, but don't know to.
Deikura:As for that, I seriously doubt that either are a part of such a group. Fedele for one has contributed greatly with his commentary. I welcome such activity and sensible vigor.
Tresville:commentary...u mean his usual off topic remarks?
Deikura:The issue was not made by their applications, but the reactions to them. I'm probably more off-topic more frequently.

Tresville:ok...moving on…How would you secure the regional gov...via registered voters? In regards to making the process stricter for security reasons.
Deikura:I believe the process is as strict as it should be. I don't believe we should be accepting every application coming through the door, but every active, contributing mind in the mix is a plus. In this area I would like to say I'm open to suggestion.
Tresville:Are you aware of the Minister of Internal Affairs ability to interview applicants?
Deikura:Yes. I intend to use it frequently.
Tresville:Good to hear.
Deikura:I would like to think myself a fairly good judge of character, and interviews are the perfect venue to put this to use.

Tresville:You can't deny someone by judging their character...I hope you ask some good questions and use some Intel.
Deikura:Of course, but when it comes to people you can't get anything on, you simply have to go with your gut. Had to think about that awhile as well lately.
Tresville:true...just don't go rejecting anyone cause your gut tells ya...its a sure way to get impeached by those that dislike you for whatever reason.
Deikura:It reminds me of the old question: You wake up to find your house on fire, what do you grab before you escape?
Deikura:Not to say I'd base an application on such a question, but how one answers can say a lot about their character.
Tresville:true...my answer...My computer I’d say....oh and my girlfriend of course (had to say that one..lol).
Deikura:My first reaction would be more along the lines of wondering who set it.
Tresville:not the question you asked...but em..ok...lol
Deikura:True, but I'd probably not care and be running for my life before it got to the ammo locker. XD

Tresville:So, recruitment is now in that Ministry...how would you make that addition flourish?
Deikura:I have a few ideas for that actually. To do recruiting, first you have to hire a recruiter. I plan to make recruitment into a sort of sub-ministry under my watch. We should start in-region first, obviously, because there are few people in the forum compared to our regional number.
Tresville:Actually its illegal to recruit outside of the region
Deikura:The biggest thing would to be to put one person, dependable, onto the task, and not bother him or her with much else.
Tresville:That’s a good idea.

Tresville:What about your deputy...will you be specifying what his/her job entails? We have had problems with deputies either not doing anything, not knowing what to do, or doing something he/she shouldn't be doing.
Deikura:Yes. I plan to have my deputy be able to be my direct replacement. I plan to involve my deputy quite thickly into the mix, in case he or she is needed to take over for me. There's no point in my deputy not being able to do everything I can. I intend to make sure that my deputy will be more than able to take over when they feel it is needed.
Tresville:Well..you have to understand that giving a deputy the power to see IP's is not exactly wise...since that is what a MOIA would have as one of his/her Mod powers in that specific forum (RV application thread). I am all for having a deputy step in...but not with that aspect of the job. Their are certain decisions a deputy shouldn't make without a Ministers approval or needed info.

Deikura:I'm aware that deputies have to be limited in such a fashion, but if I am indeed incapacitated, I'm sure that someone available with such power will assist.
Tresville:Yes...that’s actually my point..you have the Admins and GMODS in those cases...ready to help.
Deikura:And if I am indeed incapacitated, my deputy will be informed, as will the admin staff. However, if this is to happen, it is not something I can foresee.
Tresville:True...long as you make sure the deputy and Ministers know what would happen in such a case (in regards to dealing with such an instance) I am sure we could deal properly.
Deikura:In any case, my deputy will be informed enough to properly step in for me in every capacity he or she would be able to.
Tresville:good.

Tresville:ok...quick word game before we wrap this up....I say a word..u say the first thing that comes to mind...k?
Deikura:Sure.
Tresville:Ready...
Deikura:Steady.
Tresville:TNP
Deikura:Blue.
Tresville:NPA
Deikura:Regiment.
Tresville:CPP
Deikura:Green
Tresville:Romanoffia
Deikura:Hawk.
Tresville:Poltsamaa
Deikura:Boar.
Tresville:Moldavi
Tresville:Tresville (Laughs)
Deikura:kunai.
Tresville:Invaders
Deikura:White.
Tresville:white??...never mind...
Tresville:last one...
Tresville:Dragon Ball Z
Deikura:Good... till Goku was revealed to be an alien and not like some magic kid/monkey.

Tresville:Thanks for playing!! and Thanks for the Interview...was fun!
Deikura:Indeed. Anytime you want to interview me, my door is open.
Tresville:next election then
Tresville:Till then..Any words for the citizens?
Deikura:Well, mostly that I'm sincere. I'm not interested in messing around, just want to do my job, best I can.
Tresville:Thanks...I'll let you get back to your Kunai throwing practice..lol
Deikura:Sure. Come over sometime and I'll show you how it's done.

Interview with Erastide: Delegate Candidate in The North Pacific

It is a sunny California morning on this end of October day. I am on my way to interview Erastide who is running for Delegate of The North Pacific.

She lives in a quaint house; white picket fence, wind chimes, bird feeders, Dream catchers decorate the yard and awnings of the house. I pause before I get to the door and check my hair, clothes and breathe of course...all well!

I ring the doorbell which plays a tune by Billy Joel.

Erastide answers the door wearing some comfortable clothes and an inviting smile. We share a quick hug and she leads me to the coffee table in her living room where 2 cups of Hot Chocolate are waiting.

__________________________________________________

Tresville: Hi Erastide...Thanks for granting me this interview.
Erastide: Hi Cisco! Happy to be here. :)
Tresville: your an early Bird aintcha? Hot Chocolate brewing this early.
Erastide: Well... I need something to keep me up in the morning. It's not the best time of the day for me.

Tresville: So, was it on a morning like this..with a similar cup of chocolate..where you decided to run for Delegate of The North Pacific?
Erastide: I don't think it was actually the morning, I think it was the afternoon actually. After a fairly long day at school too :P
Tresville: ahh...drinking time...you must have been a lil tipsy to really think about running? (laughs)
Erastide: (giggles) I was still at school, so no drinking. :P

Tresville: So how long have you been in The North Pacific?
Erastide: Umm... that kind of depends on what you mean by that.
Tresville: How about active in the region and in the forum?
Erastide: Well, my first nation, Erastide, was born into TNP in April of 03. I happily answered my issues and made several puppets (FEC being one of them) until about April 04. At that point I somehow discovered there was a map being made (by Thel) and decided to register on the TNP forum. I've never truly been what I'd call active on the TNP forum. I've only amassed a pitiful number of posts. :P
Tresville: Somehow...hmmm...could that have been a TG or post in the RMB by me or Magicality? We were both pretty active in recruiting then.
Erastide: I really don't know. I don't think it was from one of you, but that was just a little bit too long ago for me to really remember.

Tresville: true. So, why now after all this time, why get involved in the politics? So openly I mean...I know you were involved prior to running, just never in the lime light.
Erastide: Because I don't really see Delegate as being a position that's deeply involved in the politics. Under the Constitution, the Delegate is basically supposed to make sure the UN Resolutions get voted on and that the region is kept safe.
Tresville: Yes....I believe that should cut out the majority of grief a feeder delegate gets.
Erastide: One could hope I guess.

Tresville: How active are you in NationStates? Yog in everyday? Most days a week?
Erastide: oh. everyday!
Tresville: Thats a very good thing for a delegate (and regional Gov)
Erastide: Well, I have to be at school, so I just leave my messengers on and check my nation every so often.

Tresville: So will you be staying away from the political issues that arise in the gov?
Erastide: If there's something that I feel strongly about, I will argue it, but if I lose the argument, so be it, but I would argue it as a member of the region regardless if I was delegate.
Tresville: eh...these days its kinda hard to win or lose an argument in TNP...hope you win most.

Tresville: Your opponent in this race is OParsenal...more of a Role Player...how would you differ from him as delegate? In regards to dealing with public scrutiny, communicating with the citizens?
Erastide: I'm not entirely sure.
Tresville: I guess you'll know when you get in huh? (laughs)
Erastide: (shrugs) I guess. :P

Tresville: Have you had much contact with OP?
Erastide: Pretty much, not at all
Tresville: But from your time in s2...you know of him..or just barely?
Erastide: Know of him, but I don't think I've ever talked to him
Tresville: From what you know of him...would he make a better delegate than you?
Erastide: I quite honestly have no idea. I don't have any real reason to doubt his abilities.

Tresville: Since Delegate is a position without power (gov wise), what should we expect from you if elected in terms of activity in the Regional HQ?
Erastide: Well, I'm quite fond of clearing the HQ with talking and such and recently I've seen people trying to do that.
Tresville: As am I...strategy we used many times...so your Anti-Spam I take it?
Erastide: pretty much. I'd like to ask for a 15 line limit on spam like was in place earlier.
Tresville: Yes...good idea!!
Erastide: Asking for endorsements is game-legal, but pretty irritating to most of the residents. Plus, actual talking between residents shows the lurking residents that real, interesting people actually live in the region.

Tresville: So if elected...what is the highest endocount you think you will get, out of a average 800 - 900 UN's in the region?
Erastide: hmm.... I could hope for slightly above half I guess. I'm not entirely sure. My current count is higher than I've ever gotten before. :P
Tresville: oh no...I'm going to have to jump on the Erastide Recruiting wagon if you hover at 450!! (laughs)

Tresville: Last question. I’m sure you have papers to correct and kids to spank..lol...
Erastide: I wouldn't mind having lots of endorsements, it's quite pretty to look at, but I've never been really enamored with getting the most. I may have to compete with Neenee though ^_^
Tresville: Why should Registered Voters vote for you in the election?
Erastide: Because they think I'm capable of fulfilling the delegate's duties and not taking it beyond the assigned scope.
Tresville: Lil more please...
Erastide: what do you mean? :P
Tresville: Perhaps a mention about being active in NS, trustworthy, vet...etc.
Erastide: I'm not sure that anything else I am or have done should be especially meaningful, except to assure people that I will keep to my word.
Tresville: I would think that your help during the Pixiedance Reign (NPD) should be worthy of mention. Your behind the scenes participation and help with your Nations is something. I can tell your humble...but feel free to use some of that!
Erastide: I guess. I tend to do what I feel is right and fair to players. And what I can truly commit time to :P
Tresville: (laughs) Yes...thats why I have always respected your opinion...you don't "PlayBall" for the heck of it..if you get my meaning.
Erastide: uh... no Cisco, that didn't make sense. :P
Tresville: Play ball...its a term used when someone is simply going along with something despite their convictions.
Erastide: oh, hash.. No, I won't do that. I'll argue until I agree or must accept something.
Tresville: Great to hear...well...Thanks for your time, company and the free cup of hot chocolate.
Erastide: Here, you can have some chocolate and a stuffed bunny before you go! :)
Tresville: can I comeback sometime...perhaps later on tonight if your not busy (Winks).
Erastide: Sure, you can come back. I'll be entertaining the PM's from several other regions, I'm sure you boys can find something to talk about. ^_^ LOL
Tresville: great...company...shucks!!
Erastide: I'll expect hugs and snuggles when you come!
Tresville: Thanks...I'll save the snuggles for another day when we are alone (laughs). Have a good day!! See you in the voting booth!!
Erastide: See you!

Interview with GoalVA: MOEA Candidate

On the 25th of October, on a rainy British night, I interviewed GoalVA the candidate for Minister of External Affairs in our upcoming elections. We sat in his quaint loft smoking cigarettes and drinking tea (well he drank tea, I'm American) for a few minutes before I started the Interview.

He recently moved into this loft and the bare walls showed this. What he did manage to set up was his computer station and his Xbox/Playstation section, in adjacent rooms. Two leather seats (that vibrated) were in front of the flat screen TV with the game systems directly in front of it. I asked if we could begin the interview there, since he is likely to get a load of IM's if we did it near his computer. He obliged.

Tresville: Goal...Thanks for granting me this interview.
GoalVA: No, thank you :) It's an honor.

Tresville: So, your going for a second shot as Minister of External Affairs huh?
GoalVA: Indeed, diplomacy has always been my first love.
Tresville: I'd ask what your second love is...but I'm afraid of the answer...lol
GoalVA: (Laughs) I'll keep our secret, don't worry :)

Tresville: So, what will u be doing different this time around if elected?
GoalVA: Well, the first thing I plan on doing is continuing the work I've already started with our Diplomatic Corps.
Tresville: Such as?
GoalVA: Well, up until this point they've been little better than glorified postal workers. Delivering messages and then coming home again. I believe that ambassadors and diplomats are always our first line of defence. They provide us with information, keep our friendships fresh and smooth over our hostilities. They are our eyes and ears on the ground, if you catch my meaning. I want to ensure that our diplomats intergrate with their regions. Make friendships, share information. Basically more like RL ambassadors would do.

Tresville: What if Diplomatic Corp. members go a lil too far? Meaning, what if they over step their powers (proposing alliances, working on embassy documents etc etc.)?
GoalVA: Then they would be dealt with severly.I would personally see the training of our diplomats.
Tresville: Thats a good idea.
GoalVA: They will also be required to report back to me or the Ambassador-General weekly. More so, if the situation demands it.

Tresville: So, tell me about the CPP a bit?....and please no pre written statements (Laughs).
GoalVA: No, I didn't prepare any unfortunately. What would you like to know?
Tresville: Where do you see the Party in the future? in regards to regional involvement.
GoalVA: In general, I believe that Parties will play a big part in encouraging our citizens to be more political. IMO, one of the problems that our region has had is that there are too few members who are willing or confident to take part. Parties will offer encouragement and advice for those who wish to get involved.

Tresville: Do you see them causing any sort of division in the community...a concern I expressed publically before?
GoalVA: I'd hope not. With any poltical system you are going to get disagreements.
Tresville: What will you personally do to try to pevent this?
GoalVA: At the end of the day CPP is just a group of RVs whom share the same ideals. To prevent this? Well, I'm making damn sure that our members realise that we are working for the region and reminding them that even though you may not agree with someone, they are our siblings. We are all part of this region and are working towards the same goals.

Tresville: In regards to that..will you be asking members in your party to post their qualifications prior to running for a Government position in TNP?
GoalVA: It depends on what you mean by qualifactions. We have an internal vote on our candidates, in which they have to convince our members of the suitability Those that we do not feel are subtable will not be allowed to represent the party.
Tresville: well...certain positions require activity and the ability to organize and work well with others.
GoalVA: Indeed, and those that do not show these qualities would be very unlikely to be allowed to run for us It is not in our interest to allow the wrong people into the cabinet.
Tresville: Good to hear.
GoalVA: Infact, it is harder for our members. They have to go through a candidacy process twice. More than the indpendants do. They are also subject to closer scruitany whilst in our party.

Tresville: The current Ministers have done much since Insane Power left the delegacy in limbo...what will you do to keep the government and region progressing?
GoalVA: I am determined to use my last term for this year to strengthen our External Affairs. As I said in my campaign, we have no foreign policy to speak off.We are an non-entity on the world stage.I would hope that we would be able to hold our own against the other actors.
Tresville: yes...I hope you rectify that.
GoalVA: Hopefully, by the next elections we should have a direction with which to travel, and the strenght to protect ourselves from those that wish to use us.

Tresville: You are a frequent poster in the NPG forum...what is your take on that community and their views?
GoalVA: Hmm...When I first went there, it was a personal project in diplomacy. I hoped that I could attempt to bridge the gap between us. I am now of the opinion that certain players do not wish that gap to be bridged, on both sides of the conflict. Their community is based on their distrust of our community, and our distrust of them is making them closer. Do their views have legitimacy? Well, I believe that everyone should be allowed to be a citizen. They are then free to damn themselves as they wish.
Tresville: hey..I'll ask the questions thank you!! (Laughs)
GoalVA: I apologise.
Tresville: It was a good question though...
GoalVA: Thank you.
Tresville: Feel free to elaborate.
GoalVA: Well, I believe that regardless of their actions, they were still innocent until they had been tried. Therefore, I believe that they should be RVs. If they were found guilty, then I would be totally behind any actions taken against them. I am a firm believer of innocent until proven guilty, regardless of how bad a taste it can leave in mouth.
Tresville: I believe you are referring to the RV referendum that made them unable to join. It wasn't a criminal proceeding. I still dislike that approach, but I believe it was legal at the time (no RA's to make decisions).
GoalVA: Indeed, I am not in a position to judge that referedum, as I was not in the region at the time. I think my issue comes from the fact there was question of it's legality. I think that if there is any doubt these things should be investigated fully.
Tresville: yes... people forget that it was legal at the time. Whether it is now is a different story.
GoalVA: Indeed.

Tresville: Moving on... Whats with those Haiku requests in the Campaign threads??
GoalVA: Ah, :) It was something my friend Vitrionia started in the Meritocracy. I found it an interesting way to get someone to consider their answer and give me the core of it.
Tresville: You have been hanging with flemigovia too much I think! (Laughs)
GoalVA: Too many politicans are prone to embellishing or using double speak to explain themselves. With a Haiku, you remove that power from them.
Tresville: I noticed.
GoalVA: They have to give you a clear answer. and it looks pretty. :)
Tresville: Well...thats a matter of opinion...they annoy me...but thats just me. :)
GoalVA: Of course, I don't expect everyone to appreciate them. It does give me a good insight into our candidates though.

Tresville: So, will you be voting for Romanoffia or Poltsamaa in this election? (Laughs)
GoalVA: Ah, I shall of course be voting for Poltsamaa.

Tresville: 1 more serious question... in regards to Invaders as RV issue...first..were you a defender in the past?
GoalVA: Indeed. I was a member of TITO. For a short while at least.
Tresville: As an ex-defender...do you think that allowing openly active invaders as RV's and gov positions is a good idea?
GoalVA: Ah, interesting question. Once again, I stand by the belief that all-comers should be allowed as citizens and then damned by their own actions but, I do understand the point of those that do not trust them. As a feeder, I do not believe we can be picky about our membership, but those that flaunt it should be dealt with harshly.
Tresville: It would effect the region diplomatically.
GoalVA: Perhaps. That said, we have had bigger fish in our region before...and I'd much rather they were open about their other nations then trying to sneak in. I am against the creation of an invader army though.Or the allowance of those RVs to invade using their TNP nations. If Invaders want to create a new nation to try life in a feeder, I don't feel I am big enough to prevent that. They have to play by our rules though.
Tresville: What if UN requirement (within the region) becomes a statute for voting?
GoalVA: Hmm... That would cause problems for a lot of our members, not just those that could cause problems for us. I also believe it would be against our constitution. As we have said that we will not dictate to our members how their nations should be run. The UN can have quite an effect upon a nation.
Tresville: I brought it up because it was mentioned a few times as a future proposal to the RA.
GoalVA: Indeed. I have heard rumour of it. I do not believe it is worth the arguements it would cause. We already require our members to announce the UN nations. I don't believe we can do much more and be comfortable with it. There are many nations who are against UN membership for legitamate reason.

Tresville: yup...Last question...So, what are your chances of winning in the election?
GoalVA: Well, if I am not challanged, I hope they are quite high.

Tresville: Before I end this interview, any parting words to our citizens?
GoalVA: I hope that our citizens will remain strong whilst we are in this trying time. Peace is nearly upon us, and all we can do is wait and rebuild.
Tresville: Thanks, see you in the voting booth!
GoalVA: Thank you, it's been a pleasure.

After the interview, I stuck around for a bit and demolished Goal in some Madden 06' for XBox. I tend to carry that game with me in case of a challenge. It isn't rugby so, I had the clear advantage. Goal got his revenge when we played Grand Tuirismo 4 and he beat me 3 out of 5 races.

It was getting late and he we both had NationStates work to do, so I called it a night. I gave Goal a manly handshake and proceeded to walk away from his door. I felt like I was being watched and the bushes by his house seemed to tremble in fear. I figured it was Roman keeping a close watch on Goal..so I shrugged my shoulders and walked off. I hope Roman has an umbrella!!

NS Fantasy Football Update

Well, weeks 1 and 2 came and went. Here are the current Standings:

Tresville Giants, Risellia Rhinoceri, Shoeless Joe, DVD Cardinals, The Persian Satraps and tban108 are all tied with 2 victories. The top four lead in Total Points as well. OOOMPH on the Field, Lone Wolves, Nàstic, Umpopamaumau Unity, Thorin's Thrashers and the Flemingovian Falcons are all tied with 1 win and 1 loss. The rest of the teams have no wins and are seeking to change that come Sunday.

Match-up Analysis Week 3

Eudelphia Browns (0-2-0) vs. Tresville Giants (2-0-0)
- The Tresville Giants are on a roll and currently have the most Fantasy Points in the league. With no key injuries at all and the continued outstanding play of Steelers RB Willie Parker, the T.G.'s seem to have a solid team. The Eudelphia Browns' Running Backs have been carrying this team so far. They desperatly need the QB's and Wide Receivers to produce. The E.B.'s coach needs to drink some coffee and do some roster changes. They currently have 4 players that are NA (Not Available).

Key Players in this game: Shaun Alexander (E.B.'s) --- Carnell "Cadillac" Williams (T.G.'s)

Prediction: Are you kidding me? Tresville Giants will be 3 - 0 come Tuesday.

The Baribeau Barrels (0-2-0) vs. Big Bights (0-2-0)
- The Baribeau Barrels owner must have had a good talk with the coach after their week 1 loss. The Coach has responded my upgrading the defense and offense. This didn't pay off in week 2, but T.B.B.'s were going against one of the better teams in the league. Unfortunatly, the T.B.B.'s have too many second stringers to depend on for Fantasy Points. The Big Bights are no better! They have more than 2 starters that are back ups, one QB that is NA and 2 under achieving Wide Receivers. The best part about this team are the Defenses (team). That is not saying much.

Key Players in this game: Chad Johnson (B.B's) --- Peyton Manning (T.B.B.'s)

Prediction: The Baribeau Barrels should win this one, unless Big Bights coach makes some roster changes. Should be a close game.

Risellia Rhinoceri (2-0-0) vs. Blackshear MudSnakes (0-2-0)
- The Blackshear Mudsnakes have yet to reach the 100 point mark, unlike the Risellia Rhinoceri who is #2 in total points. The coach of the Blackshear MudSnakes needs to go fishing in the Free Agency market to have a decent Defense and give the offense a boost. The R.R.'s coach may need to do some last minute starting roster adjustments, but overall the line up looks pretty solid. Their defense should continue to rackup points week to week.

Key Players in this game: Muhsin Muhammad (B.M.'s) --- Marvin Harrison (R.R.'s)

Prediction: Risellia Rhinoceri should get an easy win here.

Red Devils (2-0-0) vs. Tban108 (2-0-0) (Game of the Week)
- Tban108's will miss M. Brunell's points this week, as his team is on a bye. Hopefully, their other starting Qb will pick up the slack this week. Their Wide Receiver Corps. look good, but the coach may want to re-think who he starts this week. The Defense continues to impress. The Red Devils will also have a hole this week with one of their starters on offense on a bye. Their WR reserves are on bye's as well and the coach may be searching the Waiver Wire before Sunday. The Red Devils Defense (players not teams) is a monster when it comes to Fantasy points. Expect this to continue through week 3. Both teams are 2 and 0 and with 2 stellar defenses facing each other this week, I chose this to be the Game of the Week.

Key Players in this game: Deuce McAllister (tban) --- Priest Holmes (R.D.'s)

Prediction: Tough call on this one. Defense should be the deciding factor, so I will have to go with Tan108 to win.

Thorin's Thrashers (1-1-0) vs. DVD Cardinals (2-0-0)
-This weeks game will test that under achieving offense of Thorin's Thrashers. With a no name defense (players) and an offense in need of a steroid shot, this team desperatly needs some changes before sunday. The DVD Cardinals are on a roll with a 2-0 record. Their Defense (Team) has a bye this week, but that shouldn't matter much in this game.

Key Players in this game: Drew Bledsoe (DVD) --- Brett Favre (T.T.s)

Prediction: DVD Cardinals to win their 3rd straight game.

Vordanian Tigers (0-2-0) vs. EastWales Llamas (1-1-0)
- Seems like the EastWales Llamas coach has woken up finally, but may still need to get his head examined. The coach has made some Waiver moves, but still has many gaps in its offensive starting line up. They pulled off a narrow win last week against the Lone Wolves. This could be a trend with this team, if it continues to face opponents with holes in its starting line up. The Vordanian Tigers offense has been anemic so far and desperatly needs its starters to begin producing. When a Tight End leads a team in Fantasy points, that says a lot about an offense and defense. Believe me its nothing good. Without some waiver moves and some line up adjustments, this team will be more like a kitten than a tiger in week 3.

Key Players in this game: Braylon Edwards(E.L.) --- L.J. Smith (V.T.'s)

Prediction: Should be another close game, but the Vordanian Tigers should win this.

Lone Wolves (0-2-0) vs. Byardkurian DOOM! (0-2-0)
- The Byardkurian DOOM! have an actual chance of winning this week going against a team with a few players on Bye. This team still needs to make some Waiver moves to pick up some productive players. The Lone Wolves would have a good team if the coach would make better Starting line up decisions week to week. A few players on this team really need to be released and replaced with some active players.

Key Players in this game: Joe Horn (B.D.) --- Reuben Droughns (L.W.'s)

Prediction: Another close game, but even with gaps on defense and offense the Lone Wolves have enough productive players to pull off a win.

The Persian Satraps (2-0-0) vs. OOOMPH on the Field (1-1-0)
- The OOOMPH on the Field need players to have big games this week if they want to get pass the 500% mark. The best part of this offense, the RB's, both have bye's this week. This team needs to pick up a few back ups to survive. The Persian Satraps are lucky they are facing such a lack luster offense this week. The 2 and 0 record really doesn't reflect how good this team is. It won't survive against the top teams in the league, but this is something the coach can fix. With a few key pick ups and roster adjustments, this team can hang with the big boys till the end of the season.

Key Players in this game: Eli Manning(O.F.) --- Carson Palmer (T.P.S.)

Prediction: Put your money on The Persian Satraps this week and cash in!

Umpopamaumau Unity (1-1-0) vs. Flemingovian Falcons (1-1-0)
- The Flemingovian Falcons have been bitten by the injury bug and have a few players NA or Injured Reserve. The good news is that this was only on defense and no offensive players have a bye this week. The Umpopamaumau Unity weren't this lucky this week. They have 2 players on bye's on defense and offense. The good news is both of these players on offense would not have produced this week anyway. Bad news is they don't have any bench players to make up for these losses. The coach needs to release half this offense and pick up some good players if they want to ever win another game in this league.

Key Players in this game: Julius Jones (U.U) --- Tiki Barber (F.F.'s)

Prediction: Flemingovian Falcons offense should get enough points to win this one.

Nàstic (1-1-0) vs. Shoeless Joe (2-0-0)
Not too many bad things to say about the Shoeless Joe's. Team deserves its record and should continue to do well in the league. They have one starter with a bye, but its a Tight End and nothing that should effect this teams performance. The Nàstic aren't so lucky this week. They have 2 key starters on bye's, both players produce a nice chunk of Fantasy Points each week. 3 players are questionable this week and will be a game time decision. The Nàstic should prepare for this.

Key Players in this game: Terrell Owens (S.J.) --- Daunte Culpepper (Nàstic)

Prediction: Shoeless Joe all the way.

Second Annual Fantasy Football League Update

The Second Annual Fantasy Football League kicks off today, as the first game of the National Football League begins. All twenty slots have been filled and the Nation States League is now full. This year is bound to be the best year for the league. It has opened its doors to other regions in NationStates to join, for the first time since it was created in The North Pacific Forum.

This Weeks Match-ups

Match-up Analysis

Big Bights vs. Tresville Giants
-Tresville Giants have made 2 key Roster Moves that strengthened their defense and offense. Big Bights have yet to adjust their lineup and currently have a few players listed as NA (not Available) or Q (Questionable). The Big Bights have a better receiving Corps when it comes to Fantasy Points, but not by much. Tresville Giants have the stronger Defense.

Key Players in this game:
Chad Johnson (B.B.) --- Randy Moss (T.G.)

Prediction: Unless Big Bight players have great games, this might be an easy victory for the Tresville Giants, who have more Marquee players.

Risellia Rhinoceri vs. The Baribeau Barrels
-The Risellia Rhinoceri have made less Roster Moves and Waiver acquisitions than The Baribeau Barrels, but may prove to have the better Coach and Talent Scout. Currently the T.B.B.'s have 1 player in the starting lineup who is O (Out/won't play) and another that is NA (Not Available). The R.R have the better offense, defense (player wise) in almost every position when compared to the T.B.B.'s.

Key Players in this game:
Steven Jackson (R.R.) --- Peyton Manning (T.B.B.'s)

Prediction: Risellia Rhinoceri should win this one, unless the coaching of The Baribeau Barrels improves drastically and the team gets an overhaul.

Red Devils vs. Eudelphia Browns
-These teams are almost complete opposites of each other offensively. The Red Devils offense is mainly composed of 2 -4 year players, while the Eudelphia Browns have mainly veteran players with 5+ years experience. Both teams are solid in the Running Back position, but the R.D.'s have a better set of QB's. These teams need to readjust their current line-ups, as they have players who are either NA, P (probable) or D (doubtful).

Key Players in this game:
Ben Roethlisberger (R.D.) --- Lamont Jordan (E.B)

Prediction: Red Devils will have a hard time winning this one, unless they do some last minute changes. Eudelphia Browns veteran players should secure a win for them.

Blackshear MudSnakes vs. Thorin's Thrashers
- While the Blackshear Mudsnakes look good on paper, Thorin's Thrashers have a less injury prone set of players. T.T.'s weakness is its list of players who may end up being back ups in a few weeks or split playing time. With the exception of T.T.'s Defensive line, both teams have horrible defenses and should search the Free Agency Market.

Key Players in this game:
W. McGahee (B.M.) --- Michael Vick (T.T)

Prediction: Hard one to call, since the Blackshear MudSnakes have 2 key players out. The Thorin's Thrashers should win this one by many points, unless the Blackshear MudSnakes pull an upset.

tban108 vs. Vordanian Tigers
-Both teams are solid in their QB,RB and Wide Receiver corps. Tban clearly has the better defense, but with both coaches needing to make some changes here, that doesn't matter much.

Key Players in this game:
Deuce McAllister (Tban)--- Edgerrin James (V.T.)

Prediction: These teams are evenly matched and it should be a close one. The Running Backs of the Vordanian Tigers should bring them the Win.

DVD Cardinals vs. Lone Wolves
-These teams have some of the top Quarterbacks in the league. However, The Lone Wolves have the better combination at this position and at Running back as well. The D.C.'s have a rookie RB starting and this might prove to be a big mistake. That being the only mistake the coach has made (from looking at the lineup), the D.C's have a better Depth chart, especially in the WR section.

Key Players in this game:
Laveranues Coles (D.C.) --- Donovan McNabb (L.W.)

Prediction: Though the Lone Wolves need to wake the coach up to make some changes, this team should win by a few points.

EastWales Llamas vs. The Persian Satraps
-EastWales Llamas coach might be in a hospital somewhere and unable to make some roster moves. This team has 3 players NA, one O (out) and one player P (Probable). The Wide Receivers and Defense (team) are the only good parts of this team. The Persian Satraps look pretty good in every position. The coach has done a stellar job, with the exception of one player who should be thrown out to sea.

Key Players in this game:
Drew Bennet (E.L.) --- Keyshawn Johnson (T.P.S.)

Prediction: Unless the EastWales Llamas get a coach transplant, The Persian Satraps should win this easily.

Byardkurian DOOM vs. Umpopamaumau Unity
-This might possibly be the most uneven match-up so far. Umpopamaumau Unity obviously had a great draft, since they only picked up 3 players on waivers. The QB's are good, the WR's are good, the RB's great. The Byardkurian DOOM may be just that...doomed. Out of 2 possible QB's they have only one who will see playing time; the other should be in the Canadian Hall of Fame (Doug Flutie). They have 2 good wide receivers, but unfortunately they are from the same NFL team, which is a big Fantasy no no.

Key Players in this game:
Aaron Brooks (B.B.) --- Julius Jones (U.U.)

Prediction: Umpopamaumau Unity all the way.

OOOMPH on the Field vs. Shoeless Joe
-These two teams have some of the best Running Backs in the league. Shoeless Joe has the clear advantage at QB and Wide Receiver. This team is clearly better than OOOMPH on the Field in every position except RB. O.F.'s only bright spots are their 2 veteran Running Backs and Back up WR /RB. Shoeless Joe's Defense is a thing of beauty; other coaches should take notes.

Key Players in this game:
Clinton Portis (O.F.) --- LaDainian Tomlinson (S.J.)

Prediction: This should be an easy victory for Shoeless Joe.

Flemingovian Falcons vs. Nàstic (Game of the Week)
-This is the game of the week because its Old Delegate vs. New Delegate. Nastic is quickly showing Flemingovia how its done. Though almost evenly matched on offense, Nàstic have enough playmakers to make every game a close one. The Flemingovian Falcons have the better Running Backs, with 2 proven and veteran starters. Nastic has the better defense. With the exception of Kris Jenkins, the F.F.'s D is not even worth mentioning.

Key Players in this game:
Tiki Barber (F.F.) --- Daunte Culpepper (Nàstic)

Prediction: Nastic should win this one, unless the League Commisioner kicks the team out for no reason.
